It Really Got Me Thinking

Finally! A book about karmic astrology that attempts to provide documentation! This is rare. Most books on karmic astrology are based on conjecture, and nothing else. But this one actually uses past-life regressions to back up the theories put forth in the book. It caused me to look with new eyes on my own natal chart, and those of my family and friends. Definitely the ideas in the book increased my understanding of everyone. In my humble opinion, this is the best karmic astrology book on the market, and highly recommended! Enjoy it!

Learning about Past Lives

I've always been curious to know about my own past lives, but living where I live it's difficult if not impossible to find someone who can help me. This book really helped. Ms. Devlin claims to have done ten years of research with past life regression and astrology, and her theories certainly seem to work for me. She wrote that someone with the aspects in my chart must have been either an actor or a king - and I have been fascinated by both for most of my life. I recommend this book highly.

I will use this book. It has some great information! It answered a few nagging questions I had about my life, but she was vague in certain area's I would of liked more information. It left me wanting more. I was not crazy about how she kept going on and on about other people and their Karmic issues. All though they were fascinating stories I would of preferred she filled up the paper with more relevant information that would help me and those I read for. Examples are great but only to a point. A great beginning book in to the world of Past life Astrology. I recommend this book if your new to the subject.

Review from a Mac user

Let me start by saying, the 4 star rating is primarily due to the fact that I am Mac user and not a PC user and therefor could not "test" the procedures outlined in the book. I do, however, work with many PC users within my online business and therefore have a need to be familiar with their use and be able to help my PC user clients.

Being familiar with WAMP (and MAMP for Mac), I found this book to be well written. It was laid out in a step by step format, complete with images showing the process from beginning to end with easy to follow instructions.

This book and guide is ideal for someone who already has a solid basic understanding of how the internet and computers work together. The introduction clearly explains the purpose of the book, as well as why one might want to use this tool.

A complete novice may struggle a bit as there are (and must be) some industry jargon used. The author does a nice job of adding many images to help offset some of that need.

I would love to see the Mac version of this process by this author in a companion book.

not what I had expected

I picked up this book to do a little background research on the movement of Food Not Bombs, so that I could set up my own Bikes not Bombs organization. So what I was looking for was a lot of core philosophies and history of Food Not Bombs.

Anyway, enough about me...since what you really want to know about is the book, right?

Well what I found was a manual for starting your own organization complete with recipes and advice on what to do to get it all started. This would be really helpful if that's what you were looking for, for me not so much.

The history and tales of the organizers tended to really focus on the clashes with police, which I found pretty disappointing. I'm really not much of a protestor or celebrator of clashes like that, and although I understand it played a role in the history of the movement it seemed brutally overemphasized. It was to the point where it almost seemed more clebrated than the greater cause, to feed the hungry...not elevate themselves to martyrdom beause they got arrested making miso soup.

There are some goodies in here, but in general I was disappointed with the focus the book took. After reading the forward by Howard Zinn I was expecting a heapload more than I ended up with.

I came from a different angle than most, so take that into consideration. If you are about to set up your own Food Not Bombs organization or enjoy war-stories of elevating your cause because of clashes with riot police this book is the ticket for you.

As for me it left a disappointing taste in my mouth.

This is an excellent book, detailing this group (Food Not Bombs, which grew from a small anti-nuke collective into a decentralised international organization, with autonomous chapters throughout the world. This book is an indispensable resource for challenging capitalism, through the direct redistribution of food. Includes stories of specific actions, recipes, and clip art. Try to find this book through a small independent bookstore, not a ultra capitalistic dot-com. Don't buy into consumerism, get involved! "The Revolution Will Be Catered!"

Hungry for Peace

Check out Keith McHenry's latest book, 'Hungry for Peace.' It took him over 4 years to write based on his over 30 years with Food not Bombs. Keith is the only one of the original founders to volunteer with Food not Bombs for its entire history. The other founders stopped after the June 12, 1982 New York protests for nuclear disarmament. It has a lot more detail than his first book.

The best practical painting book.

I have purchased many oil painting books which unfortunately are long on theory but short on sound practical advice. Charles Sovek's book guides the beginner through many structured projects in which the essential building blocks of good painting technique are mastered. No book I have come across offers this instruction in such a clear concise manner. Living in a country which offers few oil painting courses, this book more than makes up for the lack of live classes. I highly recommend this book to budding oil painters.

Reading and doing the lessons in Sovek's book is like having a year of art school. I know, because I went to art school.

Check that, reading and doing the lessons in Sovek's book is BETTER than a year in art school. I am not kidding.

Wonderful Workshop at Home

Charles is a wonderful teacher. If you want to learn basics of painting and get a great start into being an artist, this book is a must. A great thing about this book is that you'll learn how to express yourself. Sometimes beginners copy their teacher's style, but not with Mr. Sovek. His encouraging manner will help you to develop your style. He also gives great advice how to overcome fears and frustration that we often get. It is one of my favorite art instruction books I've ever bought.

Dawn Martens is a young, spunky Canadian Author, who is known for her best-selling “Renegade Sons MC” series that she co-authored with Author Emily Minton. But she started her journey co-authoring the series "Resisting Love". Being a wife to Colin, and a mother to three beautiful little girls (Sarah (2007), Grace (2010), and Ava (2014)) hasn’t stopped this Canadian Firecracker from pursuing her dreams of becoming a writer! She has also co-authored The Love Song Series with her friend and fellow writer, Author Emily Minton; on top of serving as a mentor and support system for many Authors in the Indie community over the past few years. i have read this story before

I usually never give books 1 stars but I had to make an exception. See, I'm a fan of Lynda LeeAnne and this book was so similar to the first book of her series that it made me uncomfortable. For those of you who have read Lexi, Baby, here's a recap on similarities...(spoilers ahead)
Boy and girl become couple in High School -check
Boy cheats on girl- check
Girl leaves town and discovers she's pregnant -check
Girl doesn't tell boy about baby -check
Girl establishes relationship with abusive partner -check
Boys meets his daughter after 5+ years -check
Abusive partner comes back with vengeance -check
Girl forgives cheating and marries him -check
The book is so similar that he's also a quarterback in high school, they have sex the first time they meet after several years apart and soon after that she gets pregnant.
I swear this felt like a fan fiction of Lexi, Baby.
But if that is not bad enough, the dialogues from the little girl sounded more like a 17 year old teen rather than a 9 year old girl. I'm returning this for a refund. I definitively want my money back. Do yourself a favor and don't waste time and money.

Don't bother

The story was not too bad but the style of writing was not for me. The way it is written is like reading from a list. I felt no connection to the characters because very little emotion is written about. It just jumps from one week/month to the next without explanations or explorations of things we would like to know as a reader. The book was also very short,maybe had it been the length of most good novels it would have been a lot better. I just felt it was rushed. Also I have to say I'm appalled by the obvious bullying of other reviewers. EVERYONE IS ENTITLED TO THEIR OPINION whether you like it or not!! Freedom of speech is one of the most precious things we have.

Julie and Jase have a second chance at their failed relationship after Julie has returned home 9 years later, battered, beaten and with a little girl...Jase's little girl. Jase never knew he had a child. All he knew was a he screwed Julie's best friend 9 years ago, and she left him. So over the last 9 years Julie has been the domestic slave for her abusive husband Dean, and momma to Jenny, while Jase has lived it up as your town drunk and man whore. Julie is finally able to escape the abuse, and finds her way back to Tennessee to her family, and Jase. Jase has a bad boy reputation, that he tries to move past once he gets the second chance with his family, especially now that he has Jenny in his life. He never knew the fulfillment he would have in his heart, until he laid eyes on his sweet pea Jenny.

But the no contact order Julie has against Dean, or the divorce papers isn't enough to keep the raging lunatic from trying to harm her, and shatter her little family that she is trying so hard to put back together with Jase. Trouble comes to town, but not before Jase has the chance to fight for what is rightfully his.

I liked this story, but I had such a hard time connecting with the characters. Usually, when I feel connected with the characters, I don't want to put the book down to even go pee, I just want to hold onto them each for as long as I can. The characters just didn't show deep enough emotions for me. The story line itself, was magnificent. Julie and Jase surely had a Whiskey Lullaby love, but were fortunate enough to break the walls of infidelity and came back together as one.
