A treasure

Not only is this a highly imaginative book for children, but it also about love, vulnerability and humor. Between the ages of 4 to 8, children have generally become well aware of the imperfections in their parents and to a more limited extent in the world, as well. Regrettably, it is often parents who are the last to face the truth. If anyone can understand Charlie Brown's love for a skinny X-mas tree, then you will appreciate this funny, little, love story between a child and a used rhinoceros. When a book has great cartoons like this one, don't just give the book to your kid to read and look at, but read it together and enjoy. My own daughter is now an adult, but when she was in this in age range, she made me read it to her before bed, every night, and sometimes, twice....

For a growing imagination

This book came out when I was four and is one of only two books I remember from my childhood so it holds a special place in my memory. This is a book about love and affection. It is also a book that stretches one's imagination as you must imagine all the possible uses of a rhino. Frankly, the book is funny. Does the book contain certain passages that some parents might find objectionable? Opening a beer can with the horn? Perhaps politically incoreect, but give a child credit in just enjoying this story of love and imagination. I can't wait for my daughter to be old enough for me to read this book to her.

Great for classrooms.

I've used this book with students from kindergarten to fifth grade. I made a flash video using the images from the book and added my own audio and sound effects. It's really an awesome book to do a "Create Your Own" with. Students can get really creative with the idea of having a wild animal in their own home that can do lots of random things for them. I recommend everyone buy this book now. It's worth it.

As for the comment on the mother hitting the kid in the book...Silverstein is obviously writing from a child's point of view. Children always think parents do things for no reason. "I didn't do anything except pee on all the toilet paper...She got mad for no reason!" Think about it.

Very Thought Provoking

After ordering and reading ALL of Linda's books, I have to say that anyone who reads, and really READS, and discounts all of the accounts of other realities happening all around us, has their head in the sand.
I find her books informative, very scientifically researched, and well written.
Like Linda, I had my 'grounding' in physical sciences, UNTIL my eyes were opened. It seems that now, I tend to read all I can get my hands on, about things NOT neven mentioned on the 'news'. I have tossed out newspaper and television news, because of their narrow point of view, and perhaps, control by God only knows who.
I recommend any or ALL of her work , as being at the very least VERY thought provoking !

A Disturbing Look At A Grim and Baffing Topic

Linda Moulton Howe has courageously persisted in a topic that has been ignored by the mainstream press. Her personal interviews, documentation, photographs, and personal experiences all qualify her as one of the premier UFO investigators in the world. Like her co-author, Jaques Vallee, she is a visonary in a field dominated by crackpots and willfully ignorant skeptics.
Read this book and you'll never feel quite the same driving in the American West by night. If even one percent of her allegations are true (and her witnesses in the main seem pretty reliable) we have something very troubling happening right beneath our noses.

Essential reading for Human Beings...

I am done with volume 1 and volume 2; now about 1/3 through volume 3 of Linda Moulton Howe's encyclopedic alien tomes. I have to say at this point, not only does a HUGE amount of it parallel in "anecdotal" and documentary evidence (as well as SOME "hard" evidence) what the Cassiopaean's have been saying, but what the C's have been telling about "inside info" and "motives" and so forth provides a HUGE key to understanding the confusing elements that Linda MH has collected and made no real attempts to sort and explain, admitting that it is almost impossible considering the proven abilities of the beings to completely screen and manipulate our thinking processes.
But, we can't just take the words of ANY of these beings at face value, not even the C's. Somehow, there has to be a way to the center of the maze and back out again.
Yes, what the Cassiopaean's say DOES tend to be confirmed by this amazing and thorough research... yes, it does SEEM to make sense of it ... BUT, could it be more of the "mind manipulation" ? And, if so, is it due to just simple "overlay" of mental controls, or actual "time travel" to "set things up" so that the information SEEMS to be confirmed????
And, on the other hand, if it is due to time travel manipulations of history and so forth, then the picture is still somewhat bleak - only we have a couple of things that may be in our favor... the STS tendency to take the path of least resistance and "laziness," and the "wishful thinking."
Now, if any of you decide to get these books, let me warn you that they are FULL of photographs that are pretty grim and disturbing. They are also full of photos of actual military documents released through the FOIA and others that were obtained by other less standard means. There are complete transcripts of interviews and a few "hypnosis sessions," and so forth.
Colin Wilson wrote the forward, in which he says: "I have never read a book that excited such a powerful series of reactions in me. Again and again, I found myself thinking: 'If this is true, then we are all asleep. Something tremendous is going on, something that is going to affect every human being on this planet sooner or later, and we still go on living as if we were in the comfortable security of the Victorian age.'
"The question that keeps returning to me is: Why, if all of this is true - or only half true - can so many people ignore it? Why have skeptics such as writere Philip Klass and the late astronomer Carl Sagan asserted that UFO's are some kind of hysterical delusion?
"The answer to that question, I have concluded, is that we all need a sense of security, the feeling that we can get on with our lives without too much anxiety. So, we tend to ignore things that do not immediately affect us.
"If you take these cases individually, each one can be subjected to skeptical analysis and, if not dismissed, at least reduced to a minus on the credibility scale. [...] But once the total picture is grasped, it is overwhelming. Nitpicking criticism leaves it unaffected. And that total picture tells us that something very strange is going on, and very important. [...] "There are certain things that I find very hard to accept. For example, the notion that the aliens can travel backwards in time. It has always seemed to me that time travel is an impossibility. It would involve obvious paradoxes... "Like Linda Moulton Howe, Jacques Vallee and John Keel and everyone else who has studied the UFO phenomenon, I find myself trying to formulate a general theory that encompasses a mass of utterly confusing and contradictory information. [...]
"When I try to look at the whole phenomenon, I come back to my most basic intuition which has been at the heart of all my work since 'The Outsider' in 1956: that there is something oddly wrong with human consciousness. Although we have evolved further than any other animal on the face of the earth, it is at the cost of an absurd narrowness which means that we look at reality throught the long end of a telescope, failing to see the wood or even leaves because we can only focus on individual trees. Our evolution in the past twenty-five thousand years has been incredible, yet it has been largely wasted in the sense that we take it for granted and go plodding on dully. We see the world from a worm's eye view, when we urgently need a bird's eye view.
"Studying the UFO phenomenon, particularly as it is expressed in Linda's books, has made me clearly aware of one thing that I had formerly grasped only vaguely: that, far from being the most intelligent species in the universe, human beings are not really so far ahead of the cows who graze in our meadows. [...] Our greatest need at this point in our evolution is to change our intellectual viewpoint - to recognize that we are not alone in the universe and that we ought to be making far more vigorous use of the intelligence we DO possess. Our narrowness hypnotizes us into passivity. [...] "The UFO phenomenon is gradually forcing us to accept that there ARE other realities and dimensions, and that we cannot continue living like cows ruminating in a field. ... what is now happening is demanding out attention with a persistence that cannot be ignored and will become more persistent until it gets our full attention.
"For anyone who has so far managed to sleep through the increasing furor about UFOs, I cannot recommend a better alarm clock that Linda Moulton Howe's book."
And, I have to say "amen!" to that!
It's easy to fluff off the Cassioipaean's because, after all, it IS channeled and highly suspect. But, you can't go through page after page of photographs that have not been published in other media, to SEE the evidence, to see the documents, to hear the stories directly (in print)... and NOT realize that something is going on here that we really need to get a handle on.
But it takes work and committment... not a job for crybabies, either. There is NO FREE LUNCH in the universe... no "salvation" without WORK! And, in the case of what is ahead for us, or even all around us and ever present, either one wakes up and works, or they ARE LUNCH!
No kidding!

good for personal study

I like all of these books by Scott Hahn and other catholic authors. They are especially good if you don't have time for a bible study and just want to do personal study each night. They have tons and tons of notes and sidebars. I love this series.

i read a lot of scott hahn so i decided to read his notes on the new testament and genesis...

i read them, i love them!!!

each front of one has the author - not who he was, but everybody he could be! then he goes on to explain all the main couldbes of the author, and why most picked the author they picked... and then the church's answer to it...

he explains the layout of the book, who it was written to/for, and why...

in the notes, at the bottom of each page of the book, the notes are abundant...some notes, because if you put in every note on every thing you end up with...the catechism, lol! no seriously the notes are worth reading, especially "contents and unity", "living tradition", "analogy of faith", topical essays, word studies, and charts...

i like curtis mitch, too...but the intro to the gospels, etc, arent in the individual books, and the study questions for understanding and for application arent in the new testament...

im looking forward to the old testament coming out individually and the old testament as whole...

also some (i dont know how many or how to order them) comes in large, easy to read format! great for stroke, lol!

the book came in good shape, story is good about a brother who didn't pay much attention to his sister at a certain age and trying to find a way to break the ice. by accident he discovered her hobby that no one else new not even her best friend and trying to help her make friend who have the hobby as she does while keeping a secret form there parents and then suddenly getting involve even deeper in this hobby.

A Great Read for Golfers and Non-Golfers Alike

This is a fun and inspirational read whether you're a golfer or not -- the author's challenge to break par in a year was a bold one to say the least, and reading about how he went about it was a fun ride indeed! John shares his and his challenges on and off the course, balancing golf and family life, and that made this a book I could relate to. Reading John's challenge has me inspired to not only resume my own personal challenge of breaking 80, but why not try to break par myself? If you love golf, or even if you just want to read a fun, well written story, buy this book!

It took me all of 3 days to read this book - I couldn't put it down - I wish he would have taken 2 years to complete the challenge (much to his wifes chagrin)- the book would be double the pages

About the Author
Linda M James is a writer of novels, non-fiction books and screenplays. She has written two historical novels and also had many short stories and poems published. Her non-fiction books are called "How To Write Great Screenplays And Get Them Into Production" and "How To Write And Sell Short Stories." The latter book is being published later this year.

She was commissioned to write three screenplays in 2008/9:  "Young Ivanhoe", "Young Helen Of Troy" and "Jesus Christ: The Missing Years". They are all in pre-production. Linda also runs writing workshops in Tunbridge Wells, Kent, UK, where she now lives after living in Malta, Germany and Vienna for eleven years.

Grounded and well-researched

Very enjoyable read- there's a nice blend of theory, personal experience, and instruction.

I really appreciate the down-to-earth and grounded way the subject is talked about. It's so common to find psychic development written about either in an abstract way that makes it not very accessible for normal people, or very sugar-coated and fluffy, so as not to be useful. But this book is both pragmatic, encouraging, and informative. It's rare to find all of those things in one place :-).

If you've already been studying psychic development for many years there may not be much in here that's new for you- but the bonus material of the 'core images' work (which is a way of releasing limiting beliefs, old patterns, etc), and the integration with general energy work, and creating sacred space etc, may still make it a good read.

Also the interweaving of 'psychic development' and the more Eastern approach is pretty sweet.

For people who aren't so experienced, I recommend this book as a 'one stop' resource- it gives you the exercises you need, explains just enough theory to get you going without being overwhelming, provides the safety precautions, etc.

I wish I'd had this book when I was beginning my journey! :-)

Very interesting and enjoyable!

I really enjoyed this book, and learned some new things. I thought I knew how to correctly create positive affirmations, but Nathaniel describes a way that is new to me. I am excited to recreate my affirmations and put this method into practice!
I also enjoyed learning about the Clairvoyant Laboratory technique and the Psychonaut Method journey, and look forward to implementing them.
This book is very insightful and interesting - I learned a lot.

Good, but full of errors.

This book is hard to read because it is full of mistakes. I don't understand why someone would go the trouble and hard work of writing an interesting book and not have it edited. There are a number of psychic exercises in this book that I will try because the author seems to know what she is talking about, but all those glaring errors made it hard to really enjoy.

About the Author
John M. Scheb was born in Orlando, Florida, in 1926. He entered the practice of law in 1950. He served as associate municipal judge in Sarasota, Florida, from 1957 to 1959. From 1959 to 1970, he served as City Attorney for the city of Sarasota. In 1974, he was appointed to the Florida District Court of Appeal, second district, a position he held until his retirement in 1992. Judge Scheb holds the B.A. from Florida Southern College, the J.D. from the University of Florida, and the LL.M. from the University of Virginia.

John M. Scheb, II attended the University of Florida, where he received a B.A., M.A., and Ph.D. in political science. He is now Professor and Head of Political Science at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, where he specializes in public law, courts, and the judicial process. Professor Scheb has authored numerous articles in professional journals and is coauthor of several other textbooks, including: AN INTRODUCTION TO THE AMERICAN LEGAL SYSTEM, 3rd Edition (Wolters Kluwer, 2013), LAW AND ADMINISTRATIVE PROCESS (Thomson/Wadsworth, 2005), and AMERICAN CONSTITUTIONAL LAW, 6th Edition (Wadsworth/Cengage, 2014).

If you are a criminal justice major, this book is a must!!!

This book is excellent in explaining concepts of criminal law. It is extremely detailed in the Penal Code and the justice system statues. It has

an excellent reference section in the back of the book. It provides definitions and a glossary. This book breaks up the sections of criminal law to give you individual overviews of each topic. Very detailed. Excellent BOOK!!

The best textbook ever for CJ or Criminal Law classes

I had this book for 1.5 years and used it in Criminal Justice and Criminal Law classes. It is great because it lists the criminal law cases at the end of the book and has a glossary. Sometimes there is a lot of law lingo inolved and one must "get it", but in general it is good to understand. I highly recommend this book and will keep it for future reference.

More Than a Textbook...

When you're a student, if you can't sell back your books, they often tend to sit on a shelf collecting dust. To paraphrase William Faulkner, "that's one I don't have to read anymore." There are the rare exceptions, and "Criminal Law and Procedure" by father and son lawyer team John M. Scheb is most definitely in that category. Whether I need to refresh my memory on a statute, supreme court case, or definition, this book is my go-to. Its scope is great, but the depth is there as well. A strong foundation is provided with the preface in each section explaining English common law, Blackstone's commentaries, and how an offense was defined in in the past up to contemporary state statutes. Some of the text can be a bit dry and obtuse, but the purpose of the book is not to entertain but to inform and educate. And in that the book does a spectacular job. Comprehensive, straightforward, and packed with facts essential for criminal law students.
