Hip Hop Culture

This is the second textbook that was required for my Evolution of Hip Hop college course. What I love the most about this textbook is the way that it breaks down the different parts of songs during the listening guides. I never thought to do that, but listening to the specified song while reading about the breakdown of it was very interesting. I thought I knew all there was to know about hip hop but I was wrong. This book states that it's for people with little to no background in music. I learned a lot and thoroughly enjoyed reading about the history of music from the days of Afrika Bambaataa to Run DMC to Queen Latifah to Lil' Kim and forward to today's rappers. Definitely a good read even if you aren't taking a class on Hip Hop. This textbook will definitely increase your knowledge on the subject!

Ethan Jones is the author of the wildly popular Justin Hall spy thriller series. The first book in this series, Arctic Wargame, came out in 2012 and reached the Amazon's Top 10 Best Sellers lists in 2012, 2013 and 2014.

Justin Hall Novelle Adventure

I received this book from the author thru LibraryThing for an honest review. Ethan Jones has another hit on his hands with this novella. The book is well developed. the characters are great, has plenty of action, and a great ending. A great read for an afternoon of action adventure. I have read all the Justin Hall adventures, and will be looking for more in the future. Highly recommend this novella for everyone.

Another Great Justin Hall Adventure

Our Canadian Special Agent, Justin Hall, is in Lagos Nigeria this time to try and secure the rescue/release of a Canadian Diplomat that has been kidnapped by local terrorist. They want a million dollars for the trade.

But nothing ever goes simply. The money is taken, but the trade doesn't happen, why? Well, the terrorist want more. Justin is left to try and sort it all out. He contacts a friend in the country and solicit's her help. BUT, when they meet the terrorist seem to anticipate every move and they are there waiting. The shooting starts at this point and the action doesn't let up until the end.

Justin is going to need help that is evident. So, his partner, Carrie, comes in from another location in Africa and provides him the assistance he needs.

I won't give you anymore info because then you might feel I spoiled it for you.

I have read all of Ethan Jones books and found each of them very interesting and entertaining. I was grateful to receive an Advanced readers Copy from Ethan and appreciate his thoughtfulness.

This book is shorter than many of the others, but that doesn't detract from the adventure. It seems just the correct length to produce the style and outcome that Ethan wants. His writing is improving with each book.

If you haven't read the other Justin Hall novels you really have missed out. After reading this you might want to go back and read the others. It really won't mess up anything to read this one first, but if you are a purest you will want to go back and work your way through the series in order. It will be well worth your time.

I have enjoyed ever thing that Ethan has written and I'm sure you will as well.

Oil Everywhere, Corruption Rampant, Violence Reigns

Read this as part of a collection, "Thrilling Thirteen:13 Mysteries and Thrillers" bought on Amazon.com. This story centers around the efforts of the Canadian Government to rescue a diplomat who has been kidnapped. The agent assigned, quickly finds he is dealing with experts and it seems more personal than just for the money. There is the mysterious woman, who handles the negotiations and also there is murder, bribery and all manner of malfeasance . Paints a picture of much corruption and nothing much to be proud of in this fictional story around oil rights in Nigeria. Probably resonates with many of the poor but oil rich nations where the money could actually make a difference in people's lives if it were not siphoned off and wasted. There is a strong sense of locale, I have no way of knowing how accurate, but it feels right. Good plot lines and action.
